What If It Were As Simple As Remembering To

Just Breathe!
...and then doing the next thing?

Just Breathe! the ezine of The International Breath Institute (IBI), is sent to you from Dr. Tom Goode. IBI shows you how to be fully alive and in optimal health through lifestyle management--learning to live in alignment with your holistic nature.

As a whole (holistic, holy) being you are comprised of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects coordinated within one unitary expression. The four aspects of your mindbodysoul system are examined and described separately for clarification.

Content
IBI's web site focuses on Full Wave Breathing because it is the single most important exercise for your health. Use it to become fully alive--get well, be well and do well.

Read It Over and Over
Some of the information in the ezine is repeated so it becomes ingrained in your consciousness. Each month it changes slightly, becoming more refined and defined. Look for the changes, shifts in emphasis and expansion of ideas in each new issue.

The usual human tendency is to have to hear or read things many times before acceptance sinks in. This very normal process occurs when an idea is first introduced and we discount it. Repeated exposure brings us to acceptance, and finally adoption of the idea.

Simple Messages As Well
If you get just the breathing part of the information and use it, you would be able to effectively manage 85% of your biochemistry and boost your mindbodysoul system's natural healing ability. How important would that be in your life?

Healthcare
If you don't take care of your own health you become a participant in what is known as "Healthcare," a system predicated upon the study of sick people and focusing on how to "fix" them. It addresses symptoms rather than causes and treats disease as an enemy to be eradicated.

Self-Responsible Self Care
How would you treat illness if it was not your enemy, and was instead only a message concerning stressors in your mind and body? Most likely you would cooperate with the body using principles based upon natural health. The first place you could profitably begin is with the most basic foundation of life, your breathing.

Your mind and body work pretty well until you start storing stressors in your breathing muscles. Then you become a shallow breather, creating chronic tension that wears down your immune system. Your blood becomes toxic, and lacking oxygen and energy, your body is unable to defend itself against either internal or environmental stressors. The result is disease.

Prevent disease by doing the things you know to do to support your autoimmune health. Eliminate toxins, manage toxic emotions, avoid toxic noise and breathe!

Holistic Practices
The foundation of all holistic health practices is deeper, effective breathing, which affects your respiration, circulation, vitality, digestion, assimilation, and more. Breathing affects your entire system. Master your breathing and you master the ability to stimulate your healing resources.

High Blood Pressure, Anxiety and Worry
Have high blood pressure? Use your breathing to promote the unimpeded flow of consciousness through every cell in your body. Healing takes place on all levels. Your breathing determines your physical vitality, your emotional calmness, your mental focus and your spiritual awareness. Practice Full Wave Breathing for 30 days, and you will see your life absolutely transform!

Simple Yet Vital
If you were to "get" the value of breathing and actually employ its daily use as an exercise leading to a healthy habit, you'd be well on your way to avoiding disease and enjoying life more fully. Enjoying life more fully enables you to make a greater contribution to the life process itself.

There is Hope
You will be breathing for as long as you are alive. Doesn’t it just make good sense for you to perform it in a way that supports rather than undermines your health?

You can built a new habit of breathing that enhances instead of diminishes the Life force in your body. How do you think that would improve all that you do?

My desire and hope for you is for you to test the information presented for you and make it part of your improved life. Thank you for subscribing to Jus Breathe!

Audience
The Just Breathe! ezine's focus is on the mindbodysoul aspects of holistic health. The audience is the awakened, those who know themselves to be multidimensional beings with physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects. It is for those who practice their purpose by living lives of greater enlightenment and service through the pathways of Love, Joy and Peace.

Ten Day Test? Three Day Test? Just For Today!
For those of you unable to complete the ten day test, a beginner’s version was  offered called, The Three Day Test. It too involved a brief exercise of being with yourself and your breath. If that was also too much, how about practicing the exercise Just For Today? Follow the instruction at the end of the ezine. You may repeat the exercise tomorrow if you like your result today.

The Soul
If your interest is expanding your consciousness (increasing conscious awareness) as a spiritual being, then this ezine is for you. It is a community (common unity) connection for awakened beings, integrating the wonder of Life. It shares an alternative (holistic) view of human existence intended to expand the mind’s understanding…until it feels safe and reassured in its own logic and learns to live from the heart, from the higher consciousness. The result, with the heart and the head working together is operating from “higher” consciousness.

The higher your consciousness, the more whole your life—and the greater is your access to health and happiness. To increase your consciousness just a little is significant because the increase is logarithmic and represents a transformational shift.

Having awakened, the next step is to heal the body so the soul can express most freely its creativity and joy that become the source-connection of transformation for others. The lower body housing the gut brain is harmonized with the head/heart operating as one.The vibratory effect on others is harmonious, uplifting and, in-turn, transformative. One-by-one each part of the whole lights the candle of those standing nearest and the process is repeated like a drumbeat takes a step

 To review let’s look at:

The ABC's of Higher Consciousness

Attitude--Either expectant or repellant; positive or negative; open or closed to Life; and embracing as differentiated from resisting; healing or declining; you can get better or you can get bitter.

Breath--Let your exhale demonstrate the complete surrender to God/Universe of all cares and concerns; becoming non-resistant to the tensions of the body, relax the cells, molecules and atoms. Use your breathing throughout your day, both to re-mind yourself of your spiritual nature, as well as to boost your health and energy.

Choice--Either you listen to the voice for Love or the voice for Fear, that of ego. One knows that all are innocent; the other blames and sees the guilty. Teach your brain to tune into the Love channel; access your essence. Choose to awaken, to understand and to change

Determination—Nothing happens without your dedicated effort. Even something as simple as breathing requires your participation. To achieve more in life, there must be more invested. Usually all that is required is the gift of time. Determine today that, just for today, you will be the determining factor in your life.

Exercise for the Soul
Enter a place of positive attitude within and mentally imagine your connection to the Universe.

1.      Visualize light radiating from the center of your chest. Imagine the light becoming brighter when you inhale.

2.      Imagine unneeded stress leaving as you exhale

3.      Visualize the light changing color. With each consecutive breath allow the colors to move through the spectrum from red, orange, yellow, green, light blue, dark blue and purple.

4.      When you have finished breathing through the seven colors, breath in a golden-white light.

5.      Imagine any unneeded stress leaving you mindbody as you exhale completely, allowing the muscles to soften and the cells to relax.

6.      Imagine that you are smiling as you exhale.

Continue for Seven Minutes or longer after going through the color spectrum and breathing in the golden- white light. Continue without pausing between your inhales and exhales.

More on Choosing for Love
Within each person is an inner voice, a part of a sixth sense that you can call spirit, God, guidance or Love . When choices arise ask, "What would Love do?" When faced with a difficult situation causing emotions to arise and producing upset or confusion, ask "How would Love see this situation?" When making decisions ask, "What would Love counsel as being in the greatest good?"

When you act based upon this inner voice, you utilize your highest understanding to get the best result for all. Breathe deeply and fully as you ask, “What would Love do?”

Allow any pictures, intuitions, sounds, sensations or words to arise within your mindbody system. Feel the quality of the answer to verify Love's answer. Think of the space in the center of your chest. Imagine you were breathing into it. Tune into the answer that comes from your heart, the voice of Love.

Either Or
You are either part of the solution or you are part of the problem. You either teach joy or you are part of the problem. You either radiate an uplifting energy or you drag others down.

Use Full Wave Breathing and make your intention to fill all of the cells in your body with Joy. Continue until you can imagine all of the glands, all of the cells and even the molecules dancing inside. Repeat throughout the day.

Questions and Answers
Question: So, once there is an awareness pattern how do I clear/change some of these core beliefs which I know are not valid?

Dancing with the dark,

Fighting with the self;

Nothing really real,

An imaginary elf;

Something to battle,

A struggle to be won;

What will it take,

Just to be the One?

Answer: Amazingly enough, it is sufficient for you to observe the thoughts, know they are invalid and move on. Simply put, the light of your awareness dissolves the dark thoughts. To pursue them further is giving validity to their non-existence. In other words, making the unreal real by focusing needlessly.

As an example, everyone has (in the group mind) a thought that asks, "Am I crazy?" Noting that thought, move on. Make no more of it than having heard the weather forecast for Saigon--it has nothing to do with you; it is only a thought. Listen only to the music (and thoughts) that nurture you; ignore and tune-out the rest.  Make this, and breathing, your practice.

Question: In the last week or so, I've been really wired, with high blood pressure, heart pounding, fears about my health, if I have some major problem, if I'm dying ... My heart seems to be fine, the doctors say. I notice a lot of tension in my face, neck and shoulders, which also comes and goes but doesn't seem to go away. I get panicky thinking I'm going to have this tingling forever, that I'll go crazy.

I'm really nervous about finances, relationships, my job and other things right now.

Answer:
What you have inadvertently done is train your brain to worry. The ego mind learns to watch out for all sorts of imagined threats to keep you in chronic agitation--and shortness of breath. All of those anxious thoughts run below awareness like music playing in the background that eventually becomes ignored. It still keeps you on edge however. The first step is to unwire the worry and de-stress the mindbody system with your breathing. Add affirmations and visualizations to replace the worry thoughts and images. When they next arise, take three Full Wave Breaths and re-mind yourself--that the thoughts are just thoughts passing through and have no substance. Continue with your Full Wave Breathing, and I am certain you will notice a major difference in a short time.

WHO?—by Linda Osga

I am you and you are me.

There's only one reflection for us to see.

Inhale, I feel JOY,  Exhale, I am JOY

Inhale, I feel LOVE,  Exhale, I am LOVE

Inhale I feel PEACE,  Exhale I am PEACE

With every BREATH I get clear...

   There is NOTHING.........out there!

There is  no struggle, there is no pain

Unless you choose to play that GAME.

For inside you and inside me,

   There is JOY and HARMONY.

It's NOT new, you just forgot,

What is REAL and what is NOT!

As BREATH gives LIFE to what is REAL,

There is only ONE truth to reveal.

So I'll BREATHE with you and you with me,

And see the reflection that I SEE----your light,

   Your joy, your DIVINITY!

For I am you and you are me,

There is only ONE reflection for us to see!

Question: How often do I have to do the breathwork?

Answer: You don't have to do it at all. Simply perform the exercises on those days in which you wish to feel your best. You can skip it the rest of the time.

The Duh Factor

Barely 27% of Americans claim to eat three or more daily servings of vegetables, the amount recommended by the CDC. Those most likely to eat vegetables three or more times a day included women, college graduates, people earning at least $50,000 annually, whites, and people 65 and older. Amazingly, potatoes and vegetable juices count as vegetable servings.

Following a year-long study at Stanford University of the effect of the major diets upon obesity, researchers concluded that losing weight is difficult. There was no mention as to how much it cost to gain this bit of wisdom.

In other studies this month, exercise was found to be beneficial to your health with those least likely to exercise expected to have greater health challenges.

Words of the Wise
“Waiting for a peaceful life to come as a result of what others do is like hoping that you can quench your thirst by watching someone else drink water. Real peace is not an agreement between others; it is a personal act of sacrificing the self that believes others are responsible for the conflict it experiences.” –Guy Finley

Breathing is Better Than Exercise begins an ad for a breathing based weight loss program. Designer of the Oxycise program, Jill Johnson told Tom that the caloric burn when breathing by itself was higher than when measured on the exercise bike by at the University of Colorado. Breathing, of course, really is exercise.

The movement of your diaphragm in Full Wave Breathing stimulates and warms the body. The extra energy generated cleans the system. If you continue not moving and breathing, that extra energy actually moves throughout the organs, gently stimulating them to release toxins.

This is why IBI has always suggested that you have a breathing session in addition to your full breathing while walking or performing other exercise. Keep on breathing the Full Wave Breath when you are standing or stilling. You’ll automatically boost your energy and expand your body’s capacity to healthily handle your stress. Open up and breathe!

The number one and two over-the counter-medications are for headaches and constipation. For the first condition, since most headaches are stress related, Full Wave Breathing is an antidote.  For the second condition, the action of Full Wave Breathing stimulates the lower abdominal region and has been helpful in totally eliminating the problem.

Four Steps To Overcoming Illness
Tom Goode, ND

Imagine a straight line with wellness, the enhancement of health and your body’s ability to effortlessly ward off colds, flu and other infections at one end--and illness at the other.

Illness                                     Health                           Wellness

In this model, health is the absence of symptoms; illness their presence, and wellness as high-level fitness. To overcome illness requires that you understand and accept that you are ill and that you alone are responsible for improving your condition.

Think of illness as the mindbody system’s communication of the inability to integrate stressors. These stressors arise from pollution in the environment from pesticides, herbicides and fungicides; electromagnetic radiation and harmful chemicals in your food including preservatives, hormones and sweeteners. Eventually, depending upon your personal constitution, life-style and genetic factors, your system becomes overloaded and produces symptoms that we call illness.

Step one in overcoming illness is simple: Avoid exposure to toxic substances including fluoride and chlorine in your water, airborne pollutants including smoke and particulate matter, and harsh household cleaners. Then, still avoiding toxic exposure, eliminate all of those things that lower your energy including most packaged foods, refined sugar products and most grains. Avoid anything containing hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated vegetable or soybean oil--fast-food meals, breaded/fried foods, commercially baked crackers and cookies.

Step two is to boost your intake of antioxidant rich foods, fresh fruit and vegetables. Substitute organic eggs, grass-fed beef, lamb and bison, and natural, free-range poultry for commercially processed versions.

Step three is to supplement your diet with high quality vitamins and minerals. Consume a high potency B complex multivitamin/mineral combination and increase your intake of omega-3 fatty acids by adding fish oils, avocados, olives and raw nuts to your diet.

Step four is to begin a program of stress management including breathing, exercise and meditation.

  • Spend 15 minutes daily practicing belly breathing. Begin by exhaling fully, drawing your lower abdomen back toward your spine. Inhale fully, distending your abdomen. Repeat without pausing between inhaling and exhaling.

  • Exercise in intervals of exertion and relaxation such as running in place for one minute and walking for one minute, alternating for ten minutes six days each week.  Progressively increase the intensity of your exercise as your body adapts.

  • Meditate for 20 minutes daily. Repeat a word or phrase, returning to it as your become distracted. Alternatively, sit and count your breathing, returning to your count as thoughts arise and pass.

If you are currently under the care of a traditional healthcare provider, add a naturopathic practitioner or holistic physician to your team. Look to substitute natural remedies without side effects for prescription medications as possible.

All Is Energy
What if you could learn to direct energy? What would you direct it toward? If you were a unified being, wouldn’t you like to direct it to the greatest benefit for all people? Wouldn’t that be to express your own fullest potential? Greater enlightenment is the birthright of every soul. The continued expansion of your conscious awareness assures that you are part of the solution to the perceived ails of the world.

Pursuit of ego desires works too--in that it will lead you to conclude that after you have completed your exploration of pleasures, accumulation and worldly pursuits, it is time to fill the emptiness that still resides. The ego path, may, however, be slower and take you several more lifetimes. Enough already! Fill yourself with the spirit instead. It is easy: Just Breathe!

Tom

WHO AM I?
You are spirit experiencing the evolution of human consciousness. Every day is a step along your spiritual path that leads to your Self.

EXERCISE CORNER:
Full Wave Breathing is a natural, drug-free, and dramatically effective way to experience health, joy and aliveness that mobilizes and supports your progression toward balance and wholeness. It is a method which accelerates and complements modern healthcare and treatment practices. Use it to inspire yourself so you can inspire others!

The Single Most Important Exercise is Full Wave Breathing There are 3 Steps, simple as A B C: Abdomen, Belly, and Chest. First, breathe into the lower abdomen and keep your focus there until you can comfortably fill and relax that area of the body. Use your muscles to expand your lower abdomen, beginning at the top or your pubic bone. Second, after filling the abdomen (A) shift your focus to your entire belly (B) or midsection, stretching and distending your diaphragm and ribs as you inhale. Relax everything as you exhale. Use your muscles to push out the lower abdomen, then expand the area just above.

Third, filling A & B, shift your focus to your chest (C) and above. Having expanded the lower portions of the body, stretch up into the chest and back. Make all of your physical movements gentle and slow. All the movement to become very subtle and gentle as you alternately inhale and exhale without pause.

You may find it more comfortable to begin with distinct movements of your body. Allow the process to become like a dance of movement from bottom to top, top to bottom. Later, allow your body to remain completely relaxed as you visualize the movement of energy through you.

Repeat often for the most dramatic results. For more detailed instruction, read below:

Step One of Full Wave Breathing
Place one hand on the abdomen below the navel and the other on the chest. As you inhale, hold the chest still; allowing the abdomen to expand as if you is filling a balloon. Stretch and extend the lower belly. Relax completely into an inhale at the point where the abdomen is distended fully and the lungs are filled. After exhaling, inhale immediately. The chest does not move at all.

Continue breathing with no pause between inhales and exhale. All of the emphasis is upon your inhale. The exhale is a release of the tension created during your inhale. So you will Inhale and relax...inhale...and relax. Continue as you read this instruction to see how simple it is to perform. Breathe through your nose or mouth as you desire. You increase oxygenation by over 50% when you breathe through your mouth because of the normal restriction in nostril breathing.

Close your eyes as you are breathing and then relax for a few minutes when you are done. Allow your breathing to normalize before continuing with your activities. You may perform this exercise while sitting at the computer, riding in the car, or even watching television. Start practicing this exercise today and you'll be pleased with your result!

To help you stay focused on your breathing, place a book or weighted bag on your lower abdomen when lying down and performing the exercise. If you are sitting, to keep your spine erect, imagine that a rope is attached to the middle of your head. The rope rises into the air. In your imagination, allow the rope to gently lift you up until your spine is erect. Sit straight, be open, and breathe.

Step Two of Full Wave Breathing
Continue breathing with no pause between inhales and exhale. Inhale and Relax...Inhale...and Relax.

Count 1 as you inhale and expand your lower abdomen in Step One. Count 2 as you lengthen your inhale and push out the middle of your torso at the solar plexus. Release tension and allow the body to exhale and repeat. Perform this exercise anytime to relax. Do not perform connected breathing when driving or operating machinery.

When lying down, place a pillow under your knees, not under your neck. When sitting, allow yourself to stretch and open your spine as you sit and breathe.

Close your eyes as you breathe and then relax for a few minutes when you are done. Allow your breathing to normalize and return to your tasks.

Step Three of Full Wave Breathing
Continue breathing with no pause between inhales and exhale. Inhale and relax...Inhale...and relax.

Count 1 as you inhale and push out your lower abdomen. Count 2 as you raise the breath and energetic focus to your solar plexus. Count 3 as you move your breath and muscular focus up into your chest, stretching your intercostal muscles, shoulders and back of the neck. Relax completely when you exhale, allowing the muscles to soften. There is no effort or tension involved in your exhale.

Close your eyes as you breathe and then relax for a few minutes when you are done. Allow your breathing to normalize before continuing with your activities. Perform this exercise anytime you are sitting passively to provide a quick and effective energy boost and relaxation.

Keep your spine straight if sitting and allow to your body to move as you breathe and relax. Feel the wave of inhale as air enters your body and the wave of exhale as it leaves. Increase the volume of air and pace of breathing and feel how it affects your experience.

Since resolving stress at the cellular level is below our awareness, there are times when the breathing is accompanied by laughing or crying as old chemistry breaks up. Simply keep breathing! Allow your body any movement that arises and remember to relax fully when you exhale, softening all your muscles. Continue breathing at your own pace, deeply and fully.

Maintain your own pace and be willing to experiment. Your pace will normally change from day to day and during a session of Full Wave Breathing. Playing music as you breathe helps keep you focused in a gentle rhythm. The Cosmic Waltz, offered by Inspired Living, is the best I know of for this purpose. It focuses on the heart center and expands relaxation throughout the body.
