If you don't you become a participant in what is known as "Healthcare." Healthcare is a system predicated upon the study of sick people and focusing on how to "fix" them. It addresses symptoms rather than causes and treats disease as an enemy to be eradicated.
Self-Responsible Self Care
If illness were a message concerning stressors in your mind and body, as opposed to thinking of illness as an opponent, how would you treat it? Likely you would cooperate with the body using principals based upon natural health. The first place you might start is at the beginning--when you are born and begin to breathe. Things work pretty well until you start storing stressors in your breathing muscles. Then you become a shallow breather, creating chronic tension that wears down your immune system. The result is that you don't feel as well as you could.
 Holistic Practices
The most basic holistic health practice is breathing. Because breathing is the foundation of health and all subsequent systems are effected by breathing. If it is harmonious, the entire system moves toward greater harmony. Master your breathing and you master the ability to stimulate your healing resources.
Use your breathing to promote the unimpeded flow of consciousness through every cell in your body. Healing takes place on all levels. Your breathing determines your physical vitality, your emotional calmness, your mental focus and your spiritual awareness.

Times of Great Stress: Disasters, warring, environmental toxins, crowding, lack of resources, noise levels, deprivation, social isolation, limited education, inadequate diet, hazardous occupations, financial and time pressures, drugs and addictions, lack of exercise, obesity and poor health care.

Make a difference by being different. Love yourself enough to take care of yourself. Then you can help someone else.
 Water Wise Warning
To comply with EPA rulings, water treatment plans scrub organic residues from water prior to treatment with chlorine. The substances themselves are inert; the chlorine, however, turns them into carcinogens. Similarly, fresh plant foods react with chlorinated tap water. Concentrated health supplements or fruits and vegetables from more fertile soil can intensify the effect. Avoid chlorinated water. Install a filter or reverse osmosis system for your drinking and cooking water and a chlorine filter for your shower.

There are numerous studies that confirm these findings. For one thing, though diet drinks have no calories, they actually stimulate your appetite and cause a powerful craving for carbohydrates. Other research suggests that artificial sweeteners also stimulate fat storage.
 An Ounce of Prevention
30% of the population may be gluten sensitive according to research by Kenneth Fine, M.D. @ www.enterolab.com. What happens is that the immune system reacts to gluten in barley, rye, oats and wheat. Early detection and natural treatment may prevent a host of autoimmune disorders and help improve conditions including, "malnutrition, osteoporosis, infertility, neurological and psychiatric disorders, diabetes, psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease, eczema, autism, and others." If you have signs of gastric distress, poor digestion and elimination, or irritable bowel, you may want to adopt a gluten-free diet immediately.

An underlying factor in many diseases, he also says that you are more than likely to be gluten sensitive if you already have one of the following disorders: "chronic diarrhea; microscopic colitis; dermatitis herpetiformis; diabetes mellitus; any autoimmune syndrome (of which there is an almost end-less number like rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, lupus, dermatomyositis, psoriasis, thyroiditis, alopecia areata, hepatitis, etc.); Hepatitis C; asthma; chronic liver disease; osteoporosis; iron deficiency anemia; short stature in children; Down's syndrome; female infertility; peripheral neuropathy, seizures, and other neurological syndromes; depression and other psychiatric syndromes; irritable bowel syndrome; Crohn's Disease; and people with severe gastroesophageal reflux (GERD)." You can do them standing, walking, running, dancing, stretching, washing dishes, cooking, cleaning and any other time you are active. You can perform them while sitting during a television commercial, riding in the car, flying or lying down on a bed or in a recliner.

The trick to it all is to remember to do it. Maybe a post-it note or two - like over your computer, in the bathroom, or over the sink would work for you. Or you could go out and purchase stick-on colored dots and put them throughout your home, office and car. You can even make it a game with your mind to stimulate your inner vision (insight) by breathing in the color on the dots as you remind yourself to breathe wherever you go. The point is to build a habit of being aware of your breath and using it to shift your focus to an optimum state.
